Karen Shields, APRN
Ms. Karen Shields is a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), who earned her Doctorate at FAU in 2013. She has practiced with MSPB Cardiology since 2003. Dr. Shields has more than 33 years of direct patient care experience as a Cardiovascular ICU Nurse and Emergency Trauma Nurse with 18+ years as an APRN.
Dr. Shields graduated with her Bachelor of Science from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada in 1986. She graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Masters in 2002. She is a Board-Certified family nurse practitioner. In 2001, as a master’s student at FAU, she was inducted into the prestigious Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Dr. Shields is a member of the American College of Cardiology, American Association of Critical Care Nurses and a member of the Emergency Nurses Association. She has been involved in cardiac research for over 10 years.
